A home massage should do exactly two things: feel wonderful and do no harm. The techniques in Rubly are gentle, but a few simple rules keep them that way.
Skip the massage today if…
There's a fever or your partner feels unwell.
The skin is irritated: rash, infection, sunburn or fresh wounds.
There's a fresh injury — bruise, sprain or swelling. Massage comes weeks later, not the same day.
Right after a heavy meal or alcohol. Give it an hour.
Check with a doctor first
Pregnancy, varicose veins or blood-clot conditions, blood-thinning medication, osteoporosis, recent surgery, ongoing treatment of any serious condition — none of these mean "never", but they do mean a professional should say yes before your hands do.
Places we don't press
The spine itself and any bone — work the muscles beside them.
The front and sides of the neck — throat is off-limits, always.
The hollow behind the knee and the armpit — glide over, never dig in.
The belly gets soft, warm strokes only — never body weight.
The two golden rules
Pain means stop. A good massage lives on the pleasant side of pressure, always.
Slower is better. Whatever speed feels right — halve it.
Rubly teaches relaxation, not treatment. Nothing here is medical advice — for pain, injuries or health conditions, see a professional.
Rubly's lessons and guides are educational, not medical advice.
